Woman celebrates 100th birthday on leap day

LOVES PARK, Ill. – An Illinois woman celebrated her 100th birthday Saturday, even though her birthday has only appeared on the calendar 25 times over that time.

Edith Aileen Bevan is a leapling, someone born Feb. 29, the Rockford Register Star reported.

“It really means something to me because a lot of people don’t get to see their great-grandkids or even sometimes their grandkids,” Bevan told the Register Star.

Bevan has 10 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
