An 8-year-old yellow lab was included in Virginia Tech’s online commencement ceremony over the weekend.

Moose, a therapy dog at Virginia Tech’s College of Veterinary Medicine, received an honorary doctorate in veterinary medicine.

The Labrador retriever has had some recent health challenges, according to the release. Moose was diagnosed with prostate cancer and is undergoing chemotherapy. He has been given a positive prognosis according to the release.

Moose has been at the school since 2014.

In 2019, Moose was recognized as Virginia Veterinary Medical Association’s “Animal Hero.” The award is “given to an animal that has performed a heroic act of service or provides daily outstanding service for humans.”
