Is California or New Jersey The Most Hated State?
Which State Does Texas Hate The Most?
State-versus-state rivalries are apparently VERY real.
A viral Instagram post with tens of thousands of likes claims to reveal every state’s least favorite state. It appears to be based on social media comments, although the exact scientific method here is a little fuzzy.
Still, the results are pretty entertaining. And Hawaii is apparently the only state that doesn’t hate anybody. Must be all that ocean between them and everyone else.

Here are some highlights:
1. Texas and California hate each other.
California’s least favorite state is Texas, and Texas happily returns the favor by choosing California. New Mexico and Oklahoma also picked Texas, along with Alaska. Maybe Alaska just doesn’t like another state bragging about being big.
2. California is America’s most hated state.
Eleven states picked California, including much of the West. Florida also dislikes California, possibly because California occasionally watches Florida and thinks, “What are you people doing?”
3. Florida comes in second.
Seven states picked Florida: Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, and Georgia.
4. Some rivalries are basically family feuds.
North Carolina hates South Carolina, and South Carolina hates North Carolina. Same deal with North Dakota and South Dakota, plus Virginia and West Virginia.
5. New England really hates New Jersey.
Pretty much every New England state picked New Jersey. Even better, New Jersey picked itself.
Kansas and Michigan also chose themselves, which feels less like a rivalry and more like something they should probably work through.
And elsewhere, it’s mostly neighbors irritating neighbors. Which, honestly, might be the most believable part of the whole thing.
