Nicko’s New Chapter: From Drums to Memoirs
Nicko McBrain: The Story of an Iron Maiden Legend
Before joining Iron Maiden, Nicko played with several bands, including Trust and Pat Travers Band. Then, in 1982, his life changed. He joined Iron Maiden, replacing drummer Clive Burr.
Nicko became a very important part of Iron Maiden. His powerful drumming and big personality helped shape the band’s sound. He played on 14 Iron Maiden studio albums and toured the world with the band for more than 40 years.
In 2023, Nicko faced a serious health challenge when he suffered a TIA, sometimes called a mini-stroke. The right side of his body became temporarily paralyzed. With hard work and rehabilitation, he was able to return to the drums and continue touring.

In December 2024, Nicko announced that he would stop touring with Iron Maiden. His final show was in São Paulo, Brazil. He had decided that the long and demanding life of touring was time for him to leave behind.
But Nicko is not slowing down completely. His new autobiography, Hello Boys and Girls!, will be published by HarperNonFiction on October 22, 2026. In the book, Nicko tells stories from his childhood, his life with Iron Maiden, the people he met along the way and some of the crazy and funny moments from his career.
The book is a new chapter for Nicko, a chance to look back, share his memories and tell his story in his own words.
