Could We Get A “St. Elmo’s Fire” Sequel?
More than 40 years after it first hit theaters, St. Elmo’s Fire may finally be getting a long-awaited sequel. Rob Lowe recently gave fans an encouraging update while appearing on The Kelly Clarkson Show, revealing that a script is currently being developed.
Lowe says everyone from the original cast is interested in returning, but they’re taking their time to make sure they get the story right. “I’m trying to get it done,” Lowe said. “Everyone wants to do it. We just need to get the script right, and that’s what we’re working on.”
The 1985 film became a defining movie for Generation X, following a tight-knit group of recent college graduates trying to navigate careers, relationships, and adulthood. Along with Rob Lowe, the cast featured Emilio Estevez, Demi Moore, Andrew McCarthy, Ally Sheedy, Judd Nelson, Mare Winningham, and Andie MacDowell. It helped cement the group’s reputation as the iconic “Brat Pack.”
Lowe believes that’s exactly why the movie has stood the test of time. He says it remains popular because it’s “such a great snapshot of your 20s,” a stage of life that nearly everyone can relate to, no matter what generation they belong to.
Rob talked about his career today and teased that he’s working on a script now. Go to 8:07 to get details.
Hollywood has had success revisiting classic ’80s franchises in recent years, but fans know a sequel only works if it captures the same heart that made the original memorable. There’s still no release date or official green light, but if the script comes together, the Brat Pack could soon be back together for another chapter.
We’ll keep you up to date.
