Your Fingerprints Are At Risk

The popular “V” hand gesture, often used to signal peace or victory, is being flagged by some security experts over potential privacy risks in high-resolution photos.
Chinese security expert Li Chang recently demonstrated on a reality show that close-up images of a V-sign can, in some cases, reveal parts of a person’s fingerprints. He also warned that with advanced AI tools, even photos taken from a few meters away could potentially expose partial fingerprint data.
While this raised concerns about possible biometric theft, experts say real-world risks are still limited because lighting, angle, and image quality make it difficult to reliably capture usable fingerprint details.
To reduce any risk, Li suggested simple precautions like blurring fingertips or avoiding clear close-ups of fingers when posting V-sign selfies online.
Or keep one hand in your pocket!
