“Rolling Stone” just released its ranking of the 100 Greatest Guitar Solos of All Time. The Top 10 covers a wide range of styles, from early rock and roll to funk, progressive rock, and arena rock. Some solos are structured and melodic, others are more open and improvisational. You’ll notice that the Top 10 is dominated by classic rock greats from the 70s.
