Who are The Arkells
If you haven’t heard of The Arkells yet, mate, you’ve been missing out on one of Canada’s loudest and proudest exports. I’ll admit, they grabbed me by the collar the first time I saw that “walk-on” stage video, band striding out and the crowd absolutely losing its mind. You could feel the floor shaking through the screen. Then you find out it’s their hometown? Suddenly it all clicks. These aren’t just performers, they’re returning heroes.
They come out of Hamilton, a gritty steel town that seems baked into their sound. Frontman Max Kerman leads the charge with the kind of energy that makes you think he’d still be doing this even if no one was watching. The band got their start in the mid-2000s, a bunch of university buddies turning late-night jams into something much bigger.

Their music? Big-hearted rock with hooks that stick and lyrics that actually say something, about work, life, and pushing through when things get tough. Albums like Jackson Square and High Noon put them on the map, but it’s moments like that hometown walk-on that define them.
Because here’s the truth: plenty of bands can play. Not many can make an entire city roar like that. The Arkells can and that’s why they’re still standing tall.
