Richie Sambora’s guitar parts were built up through several overdubs, blending clean, chiming tones with soaring sustain for the song’s climactic solo. David Bryan layered rich keyboard pads and piano lines to give the track its sweeping, cinematic feel, while Tico Torres’ drums were recorded with a big, open arena sound, using large room mics to create natural reverb and depth. Backing vocals were stacked in multiple passes, giving the chorus its massive, choir-like quality that became a hallmark of Bon Jovi’s late-’80s sound.
