National Pizza Day may fall in February, but data shows that the strongest pizza cravings hit much earlier in the year. According to Google search data analyzed by the website Vegas Insider, the single biggest pizza-craving day of 2025 was New Year’s Day.

The reasons are not complicated. New Year’s Day combines late nights, hangovers, closed restaurants, and a general lack of motivation to cook. Search volume also spikes overnight, driven by people looking for pizza around 2:00 A.M. after New Year’s celebrations. Convenience and familiarity win out.

The rest of the top pizza days in 2025 followed a clear pattern. All landed on weekends, which are already the most common days for pizza consumption. Saturdays and Sundays consistently outperform weekdays, while Tuesday ranked as the day people were least likely to crave pizza.

The top five pizza-craving days of 2025 were New Year’s Day, Super Bowl Sunday, February 15th, the day after Valentine’s Day, March 15th during college basketball conference championships, and March 29th during the Elite Eight round of the NCAA Tournament. Sports, social gatherings, and post-event fatigue all contribute to the demand.

Vegas Insider also examined which states searched for “pizza” most frequently. Delaware ranked first, followed by Pennsylvania, Michigan, South Carolina, and Ohio. Montana ranked last.

The data reinforces what most people already know. Pizza thrives on convenience, weekends, sports, and recovery days, not holidays built around tradition or planning.
