Workouts Are Going Old School!

You won’t find dumbbells or weight machines at the gym Sean Keogh runs. At Calisthenics Club Houston, training relies entirely on body weight.
“That’s all we do,” Keogh said and that’s more than enough to keep new members coming in, eager to master skills like handstands and pullups.
The rise of these simple, equipment-free workouts isn’t surprising in today’s busy world, said Anatolia Vick-Kregel, director of the Lifetime Physical Activity Program at Rice University. “We don’t always have time to go to the gym,” she noted. “This is something you can do at home or even in your office.”
“This trend has been building,” added Stack, “and the pandemic definitely accelerated it.”
Research supports the benefits of calisthenics, showing it can boost muscle strength, aerobic fitness, and overall conditioning, Vick-Kregel said.
Still, Raglin noted, using equipment can sometimes make exercises easier or safer to perform — especially for beginners who might struggle with proper pushup form.
So, what they’re saying is, we now have no excuses!
