PTO for Heartbreak

A Gen Z employee reportedly asked for two days of PTO to recover from a breakup, according to an email screenshot shared on X by his boss, Knot Dating CEO Jasveer Singh, who approved the unusually candid request.

Whether genuine or a clever PR move, the post has racked up over 14 million views and ignited debate about the idea of “heartbreak leave” which is a benefit not yet standard in the U.S., but perhaps one that should be.

Research shows that emotional and physical pain activate similar regions of the brain, and according to Fast Company, employees struggling with heartbreak can be just as costly to businesses as absenteeism itself.
