We Go Candy Crazy At Halloween
Trick or treat? Turns out, some states are way more eager for the spooky season than others. A new survey from Talker Research and HI-CHEW asked 5,000 Americans just how much they love Halloween, and the results are a real sugar rush.

Here are the Top 10 Halloween Fanatics:
- Delaware – 4.2
- Idaho – 4.2
- North Dakota – 4.2
- Alabama – 4.1
- California – 4.1
- Iowa – 4.1
- New Hampshire – 4.1
- Oregon – 4.1
- Rhode Island – 4.1
- Wyoming – 4.1
And the Lone Star State? Texas ranked 13th overall, showing we’ve got plenty of Halloween spirit, just bigger and with cowboy hat wearing skeletons on the porch.
The average American buys 4.5 bags of candy each October, that’s about 745 million pounds total nationwide. Nearly half go for the jumbo “party size” because, let’s be honest, we don’t do fun-size.
The survey also found:
- Arkansas watches the most scary movies (6.4 per season)
- New York carves the most pumpkins (3.5 each)
- Wisconsin takes decorating most seriously
- Wyoming visits the most haunted houses
- And Utah leads in candy consumption (85%)
From haunted hayrides to front-yard graveyards, nobody throws a Halloween party bigger, louder, or sweeter than we do.
Happy Halloween! 🎃
