Shows are all about cold beer, face-melting guitars and nights you will never remember. But occasionally the night does not go as you have dreamed. Big time. Stupidity, out-of-control crowd members, or good old human mistake, these 8 concert catastrophes took nights that might have been legendary and turned them into American nightmares. Let’s get close up, because rock ‘n’ roll history ain’t pretty.

  1. Roskilde Festival – Denmark, 2000

9 Killed (Pearl Jam fans)

Again, not U.S. soil, but many American fans were there. A crowd surge crushed people during Pearl Jam’s set. The band nearly quit performing. Shows just how fast things can turn deadly.

BOTTOM LINE: Concerts are supposed to be electric, not tragic. So if you’re hitting the pit — stay sharp, stay safe, and always know where the exits are. Because all shows don’t result in an encore.
