Two friends from Golden Hive Meadery decided to push fermentation to its weirdest limit by turning hot dogs into alcohol. Yes, actual hot dogs.

Their now-viral clip, captioned simply “Making alcohol from hot dogs,” shows the pair dropping frankfurters into a stainless-steel fermenter like mad scientists. The internet immediately demanded answers, and, surprisingly, the duo had a plan.

They’re mead makers by trade, but curiosity got the better of them after a joke in the comment section: “What’s next, hot dog wine?” Rather than scroll past, they said, “Challenge accepted.” The result: a briny, smoky brew they dubbed Hot Dog Wine, part science experiment, part social-media dare.

To make it, they boiled down dozens of dogs, added yeast, honey, and a bit of malt, and waited. The smell, by their own admission, was “something between a baseball stadium trash can and regret.” Yet after fermentation and filtering, the liquid cleared into a pale, almost champagne-colored drink that apparently “tastes like liquid barbecue.”

Millions of views later, “Hot Dog Wine” has divided the internet. Some called it genius, others heresy. But the creators insist it’s all about the joy of discovery, and a reminder that creativity doesn’t always have to taste good to go viral.

As one commenter put it: “You don’t drink it for pleasure — you drink it for science.”
