Proof That Gen X Still Rocks
If we really want more kids to tune in, maybe it’s time for an ASMR version of the show, because a new poll says what each generation does in the car is wildly different. Here’s how it breaks down:
- Gen Z (Zoomers): They’re all about peace and quiet. In fact, 55% say they actually enjoy driving in total silence. No playlists, no podcasts, just the sound of nothing. They’re also the most likely to use the drive to “process” their workday… and, get this, the most likely to nap in their car. (Hopefully not while the car’s still moving.)
- Millennials: These folks treat their commute like a strategy session. They’re the generation most likely to think about the future or make plans while driving. In other words, they can’t just cruise—they’re multitasking, plotting, and basically running their life’s to-do list at every red light.
- Gen X: Congrats, you’re still the rock stars of the road. The survey found 89% of Gen X’ers said listening to music is their number-one driving activity. They’re the most likely to roll down the windows, crank up the volume, and let the guitar riffs carry them through rush hour.
So, depending on who’s behind the wheel, your morning commute might sound like a meditation app, a planning meeting, or a Van Halen concert. And if we’re trying to lure more Zoomers in? Maybe whispering traffic updates in soothing tones is the way to go: “You’re relaxed… you’re calm… and yes, you just missed your exit.”
I’ll crank up Houston’s Eagle. Thank you very much!
