If you’ve ever thought, “Why try somewhere new when you already know your happy place?”, you’re not alone. A new survey of 2,000 American travelers found that one in three people are “repeat travelers”, folks who return to the same vacation spot year after year.

For many, that favorite destination feels like a second home. In fact, 65% of repeat visitors say they feel like locals when they’re there. Whether it’s a certain beach, a beloved theme park, or a town tied to family traditions, the connection runs deep.

Here’s what the survey found:

  • 30% return to the same destination every year.
  • 35% of beachgoers and 20% of theme park families identify as repeat travelers.
  • Road trippers (26%) are more likely to seek out new places.
  • On average, repeat travelers have visited their favorite spot five times.

Why Go Back?

  • Comfort and familiarity — 52%
  • Beautiful scenery — 40%
  • Family traditions — 40%
  • Food scene — 40%
  • Affordability — average of $1,854 vs. $2,016 for new trips
  • Ease of planning — 35%

Nostalgia plays a big role too: nearly half of parents have taken their kids to places meaningful from their own childhood.

And the trend isn’t slowing down. More than half of travelers say they’ll return to a familiar destination in the coming year. For many Americans, travel isn’t just about adventure; it’s about making memories in the places that already feel like home.
