Two engineers have proposed Project Rebirth, an “AI-powered crash survival system” that would wrap planes in giant airbags to reduce fatalities in unavoidable crashes.

The system monitors flight data and, if a crash below 3,000 feet is imminent, deploys Kevlar- and fluid-lined airbags within two seconds. Reverse thrusters would then slow the plane, while beacons and GPS would guide rescuers after impact.

It’s still just a concept, but aims to address growing concerns over aviation safety.

Does it Sound (and look) cartoonishly simple? Yes. but if it works, who cares!
