Lock and load, movie fans, Call of Duty is officially heading to the big screen. Activision Blizzard and Paramount have confirmed a deal to produce a live-action film based on the best-selling video game series, which has sold over 500 million copies worldwide. Paramount’s CEO David Ellison, a longtime player himself, says he’s approaching it with the same blockbuster ambition that fueled Top Gun: Maverick. Activision president Rob Kostich promised a “defining cinematic moment” for fans.

But of course, gamers have thoughts. Within minutes of the news, Reddit lit up like a multiplayer lobby after a kill streak. One fan joked, “Cool,  I can’t wait for the first 15 minutes of the movie to be me yelling at a 12-year-old camper.” Another quipped, “Hope they include the 45 minutes I spend downloading updates before I can even play.”

Still, excitement is real. Many players compared it to the recent wave of successful video-game adaptations like Fallout and The Last of Us. Others are already fantasy-casting: Chris Hemsworth as Captain Price, or maybe John Boyega in a Black Ops storyline.

What we don’t know yet: release date, director, or whether the story will come from Modern Warfare, Black Ops, or something brand new. What we do know: with this franchise’s mix of grit, explosions, and global stakes, a theater full of fans chanting “Mission accomplished” feels inevitable.

For now, gamers are just reloading their memes and saying: “GG, Hollywood. Don’t screw this up.”
