What began in 1900 as a quirky marketing ploy by a French tire company has become the holy grail of culinary recognition. Michelin launched their first Guide Michelin to encourage motorists, and, by extension, tire purchases, by providing maps, driving tips, and places to eat and stay along the way. The Red Guide’s restaurant-star system evolved soon after, with a formal hierarchy introduced by 1931: one star for “very good,” two for “worth a detour,” and three for “worth a special journey”.

Fast forward to 2024, when Texas got its first taste of that Michelin prestige, and Houston didn’t just nibble; it feasted. The debut Texas ceremony awarded pizza, regional, and fine-dining favorites with their first-ever Michelin stars. Houston’s winners: BCN Taste & Tradition, Le Jardinier, March, Musaafer, Tatemó, and CorkScrew BBQ in Spring—all earning one star.

Now, the red-carpet is returning.

On October 28, 2025, at the iconic Wortham Center, the Michelin Guide returns to Houston for its second Texas ceremony. Word on the street: restaurants are already dreaming of the next levels. Could this be the year Texas earns a rare two- or even three-star restaurant? The culinary community is watching closely.

Once launched to sell tires, the Michelin Guide evolved into a global culinary compass.

Houston has become must dine city for food lovers and critics alike!
