A Real-Life Ghost Town

Wharram Percy, a long-abandoned medieval village nestled in the Yorkshire Wolds, is steeped in mystery and fascination. Reachable only on foot, its haunting ruins feature a 12th-century stone church and grassy mounds marking the sites of former homes.
Excavations during the 1960s revealed a burial pit containing over 100 human bones, sparking debate over the village’s unusual funerary customs.
Once a thriving settlement, Wharram Percy began to decline in the 15th century and was eventually deserted. Now under the care of English Heritage, the site offers visitors a rare window into the everyday lives of medieval villagers.
It beats ghost hunting in cemeteries after midnight in Chattanooga, TN. I won’t do that again!
