Monkeys Helping People with PTSD!

In Perkinston, Mississippi, a unique monkey sanctuary is providing a path to healing for veterans suffering from PTSD. Founded by Air Force veteran April Stewart, the sanctuary offers a tranquil environment where former service members connect with rescued primates. Army veteran John Richard, who battled PTSD for over two decades, found comfort through his relationship with a spider monkey named Louie.
Stewart, who designed the sanctuary to mimic a natural habitat, aims to expand its mission by opening it to the public next summer for educational tours. The sanctuary continues to serve as a haven—for both the animals who have been rescued and the veteran’s rediscovering peace through their care.
