Nick Chubb to Sign With Houston Texans, Per Report

Veteran free agent Nick Chubb is reportedly close to signing with the Houston Texans, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. The deal would depend on Chubb passing a team physical on Monday.
Chubb has been one of the top names available this offseason. A return to the Cleveland Browns seemed possible early on, but that door appears to be closing. With the Texans, Chubb would join forces with Joe Mixon to give Houston a tough, experienced one-two punch in the backfield. Injuries and inconsistency limited the Texans’ ground game in 2024, so adding Chubb could be a big boost.
If he had returned to Cleveland, Chubb would’ve faced stiff competition for touches. The Browns loaded up on young talent at running back in the draft, picking Quinshon Judkins and Dylan Sampson. They also brought back Jerome Ford, making the position room crowded and Chubb’s role uncertain.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler added that while a Browns reunion isn’t completely off the table, it’s probably not happening. “I’m told Houston could be one to watch,” Fowler said on SportsCenter. “They’ve been looking at that running back market—maybe adding somebody with Joe Mixon.”
Chubb wasn’t quite himself last season as he worked his way back from a serious knee injury. But Houston is betting that the the talent is still there. He’s a proven producer with four 1,000-yard seasons and the kind of upside that once had him pushing 1,500 yards.
Multiple surgeries in 2023—including repairs to his meniscus, ACL, MCL, and medial capsule—slowed his return. All of it came in the same left knee he injured back in 2015 at Georgia. Still, if healthy, Chubb brings instant credibility to any backfield.
