In 2014, following Steve Walsh‘s retirement from the band, Kansas was in need of a new frontman. Platt, then 52, reached out to drummer Phil Ehart via Facebook, expressing his interest in the position. After a brief meeting, Ehart offered him the role, marking a transformative moment in Platt’s life.
His debut with Kansas was in September 2014, during the band’s 40th-anniversary tour. Platt approached the challenge with humility, acknowledging the band’s legacy and aiming to honor it rather than replicate Walsh’s iconic style.
