Scottish guitarist and vocalist Davey Johnstone, best known for his work with Elton John, was born in Edinburgh, Scotland. Happy 74th birthday, Davey!
1965
After purchasing a Gibson fuzz-box, The Rolling Stones‘ Mick Jagger and Keith Richards headed to their Clearwater, FL hotel room to write and finish the opening guitar riff of (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction, which is often considered as one of the greatest rock sons of all time.

Elton John released Rocket Man, from his 1972 album Honky Chateau, which later reached No. 6 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.
1977
Led Zeppelin drew in a crowd of 76,229 people at the Silverdome in Pontiac, MI. They broke their own record of the largest gathering to attend a concert by a sing act.
1997
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame held its first ceremony at the actual hall. Ceremonies were previously held in New York City. The inductees that year were the Bee Gees, Crosby, Stills & Nash, the Jackson 5, Joni Mitchell, Parliament and the Young Rascals.
2020
Former Bad Company frontman Brian Howe died of cardiac arrest at the age of 66. He replaced Paul Rodgers as the band’s lead vocalist. Howe was also know for fronting Ted Nugent‘s band for his Penetrator album, in 1983.
