“We expect that for Bolivar especially, there might be water coming over the top of [highway] 87. So if that’s going to be inconvenient or certainly life threatening for you, you might want to relocate for a day or two. We’ll get you back as quick as we can,” Judge Henry said in a news conference. “At this point, we only activate some road bridge crews to be out there to able to clear the road as quickly as possible.”
In a recent online post, Mayor John Whitmire said officials are taking the necessary steps to make sure Houston is ready.
“Over the past few days, key city departments—including the Houston Fire and Police Departments, Public Works, Solid Waste, Homeland Security, and other essential agencies—have reviewed emergency plans and are prepared to activate them if needed,” the statement read. “City officials are working together to position resources and ensure full preparedness for any scenario.”
According to a report by Click2Houston, the storm surge is expected to peak between one and three feet Wednesday morning (Sept 11), which could impact travel due to some coastal flooding.
