DODGE CITY, Kan. – A suspect in a weekend double murder in Arizona was killed Monday morning in a shootout that left three Kansas sheriff’s deputies injured.
The Associated Press reported that two deputies with the Ford County Sheriff’s Office and another with Clark County Sheriff’s Office were injured in the shooting.
A woman with the suspect was also injured and has been hospitalized, authorities said.
The slain man allegedly shot and killed two adults in Phoenix on Sunday, according to KTVK. Arizona investigators learned that a woman may have been with the man, KWCH reported.
The man and woman were tracked out of state, and Phoenix Police Department detectives contacted agencies across the country, according to the news station.
The pair was later located by the Clark County Sheriff’s Office near Minneola, Kansas, according to KPNX. KWCH reported that a confrontation took place between the man and deputies, which led to the officer-involved shooting in Dodge City.
According to the AP, two Ford County deputies and another with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office were injured in the shootout. Two of them were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The other deputy was in good condition.
A police dog reportedly bit a highway patrol trooper but the AP reported that the deputy wasn’t hurt badly.
Phoenix Police Department officers were called just after 1 p.m. Sunday to a house near Warner Street and Broadway Road, according to KTVK. When officers arrived at the house, they found two adults with gunshot wounds.
The victims were later identified as Cameron Brown, 28, and Asya Ribble, 27. Their two young children were found unharmed inside the house.
The names of the suspect and the woman with him have not yet been released. The investigation is ongoing.
