Lisa Fernandez pleaded guilty to the death of Marja McClendon, 38, after allegedly administering silicone butt injections without a license, KTRK-TV reported. She was sentenced on Jan. 23, court records show.

Fernandez was arrested in 2021 after an investigation into McClendon, according to KHOU-TV.

On April 24, 2018, McClendon traveled to Houston to receive the injections, KTRK reported. After receiving half of the injections, McClendon began coughing and experiencing shortness of breath, according to the television station.

McClendon allegedly returned the next day for a second round of injections after she was refused a refund, KHOU reported. Police said Fernandez administered the shots with a syringe, according to the television station.

After the second round of injections, McClendon began coughing up blood, KTRK reported. She was hospitalized and died on April 30, 2018, according to the television station.

An autopsy stated that her manner of death was a homicide, with the cause listed as a complication from a silicone pulmonary embolism.

In court records, Fernandez was identified as a “beauty consultant,” KHOU reported. She had been working out of her home since 2004.
