Chick-fil-A partners with company to convert used oil to fuel
IRVING, Texas – Chicken fast-food giant Chick-fil-A has announced a new partnership with a Texas company that will take the company’s used cooking oil and convert it into renewable transportation fuel.
In a news release, Chick-fil-A and DAR PRO Solutions announced the oil will be collected from Chick-fil-A restaurants across the U.S. and Canada.
“At Chick-fil-A, we are committed to caring —and that includes caring for others through our food and caring for our planet,” said Rodney Bullard, vice president of corporate social responsibility for Chick-fil-A in a statement. “Our innovative partnership with DAR PRO Solutions helps us be responsible stewards of the resources at our restaurants and allows us to support the future of renewable transportation fuel — all while positively influencing the communities we serve.”
Chick-fil-A restaurants will be given a grease container for used cooking oil, and when it’s full, DAR PRO Solutions will collect it and convert it to fuel, The Washington Examiner reported.
According to DAR PRO Solutions’ website, the company converts cooking oil to renewable diesel through its Diamond Green Diesel venture, which reduces carbon emissions by up to 85% per gallon. In the last year, DAR PRO said it took the equivalent of 470,000 cars off the road by producing low-emitting fuel. The company estimates it will produce more than 700 million gallons of renewable diesel in 2022.
