According to The Associated Press, 24-year-old Biles, a seven-time national champion, dominated the trials with a 118.098 two-day score – despite a fall on the balance beam Sunday – to clinch her spot on the four-member U.S. women’s Olympic gymnastics team. Sunisa Lee, 18, who logged a second-place score of 115.832; Jordan Chiles, 20, who scored 114.631; and Grace McCallum, 18, who scored 112.564, claimed the remaining three spots, TeamUSA.org reported.
Fifth-place finisher MyKayla Skinner, 24, who logged a score of 112.264, will compete as an individual in the Olympics, as will 21-year-old Jade Carey, who clinched her individual spot via the World Cup series, the AP reported. That means the two “can compete on all four events in Tokyo, but their scores won’t count toward the team,” according to TeamUSA.org.
Alternates include Kayla DiCello, Kara Eaker, Leanne Wong and Emma Malabuyo, the AP reported.
