In a Facebook post, Connecticut State Police in Montville said they went to assist at the scene where a car had crashed into a guardrail. Troopers said that when they arrived, a man was walking away from the accident towards the woods and pointed a gun at them and local police on the scene. That prompted troopers to send a K9 officer into the woods after the suspect.

Troopers said Presley Almanzar-DeJesus attacked the K9 when it reached him, punching the animal and trying to gouge its eyes, WFSB reported. Troopers were able to use a Taser to take Almanzar-DeJesus into custody.

While searching the car, investigators said they found a .38 Special revolver and a Glock 9mm, both of which had been reported stolen, as well as a loaded high-capacity magazine.

Almanzar-DeJesus was charged with 14 crimes, including cruelty to animals, and his bond was set at $250,000, WTIC reported.
