NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas – A Texas woman and her 10-year-old son are dead and a teen girl is in serious condition after a shooting that officials believe was a murder-suicide, authorities said Thursday.
According to the New Braunfels Police Department, Chelsee Dodd, 43, of New Braunfels, shot her two children before turning the gun on herself, KSAT reported. The woman and her 10-year-old son, Trace Dodd, were pronounced dead at the scene, the television station reported.
Police said Chelsee Dodd’s 16-year-old daughter was still conscious and breathing at the scene, KABB reported. She was taken to an area hospital with a life-threatening gunshot wound, the television station reported.
Autopsies have been ordered for Chelsee Dodd and Trace Dodd, KSAT reported.
In a statement, New Braunfels Independent School District Superintendent Randy Moczygemba confirmed that Trace Dodd attended Veramendi Elementary School, while his sister is enrolled at New Braunfels High School, KENS-TV reported.
“A crisis counseling team has been assembled at both schools and we encourage you to talk to your child about their feelings upon hearing this news,” Moczygemba stated. “Every child will react in different ways and we want to make sure they have the support they need. If your child is in need of someone to speak to at school, please know that the counselors will be on site and ready to assist them.”
