FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. – An Army sergeant was charged with murder Wednesday in connection with the death of his pregnant wife, authorities said.
Sgt. 1st Class Joseph Santiago, 33, who is with the 5th Special Forces Group at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, was arrested Sept 28, WZTV reported. He is charged in the death of Meghan Santiago, which occurred Sept. 27 on the base, a base spokesperson told the television station.
Joseph Santiago, a signal support systems specialist, has been at the Grayson County Jail pending an investigation by the U.S. Army Criminal Division, according to WZTV.
“Meghan’s death is a tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends,” Col. Brent Lindeman, commander of 5th Special Forces Group, said in a statement. “This tragic event has shaken our entire unit. We take all allegations of domestic violence seriously, and we will provide every resource to ensure a thorough investigation.”
Army officials said no further information will be released, according to WSMV.
