The Nashville Fire Department responded to a call at around 9:45 a.m. CDT and discovered the woman sitting on rocks in the Cumberland River, WKRN reported.

Callers told dispatchers that the woman had stolen a delivery truck and eventually jumped from it into the river, the television station reported.

Witness Jay Jordan said the driver of the Lipman Brothers box truck appeared to be delivering goods when the woman allegedly stole the truck.

“(The) truck was just parked to the side, the back door was open, he was in the box in the back obviously offloading,” Jordan told WKRN. “(She) ran through all the red lights. Stuff just falling out of the truck. It was a mess.”

A Nashville Fire Department spokesperson said a life vest had been given to the woman by crews while a boat was summoned to remove her from the water, WSMV reported.

The woman was rescued at about 11:15 a.m. CDT and then taken to an area hospital, WKRN reported.

Nashville police said criminal charges were pending against the woman because of the alleged theft of the delivery truck, the television station reported.

The incident remains under investigation.
