Bank robbery suspect found hiding in Michigan port-a-potty
DEARBORN, Mich. – A suspected Michigan bank robber may want to brush up on his hide-and-seek skills.
Charles Woolery was arrested March 2 after police say he stole nearly $1,700 from the Dearborn Federal Savings Bank, WJBK reported.
According to WDIV-TV, a bank teller told investigators that the man who robbed her teller window handed her a note that read: “Smile. Put all $10-$20-$50-$100 in bag no dye pack, no GPS, do not hit alarm til I leave or I will kill everyone.”
The suspect had motioned to his hip, implying he had a weapon, as he passed the note, the TV station reported.
According to police, neighborhood surveillance cameras captured footage of Woolery fleeing the bank and then attempting to hide in a port-a-potty a few blocks from the bank. They apprehended Woolery, who surrendered without incident, and confiscated the money inside the portable toilet, WJBK reported.
In addition to $1,690 in cash and the note passed to the teller, police said they also found a black beanie and black mask in the port-a-potty that matched those being worn by the suspect captured by surveillance video leaving the bank, the TV station reported.
Woolery has been charged with armed bank robbery, WDIV-TV reported.
