Coronavirus: US House Majority Leader Hoyer tests positive for COVID-19
WASHINGTON – U.S. House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer confirmed via social media on Tuesday that he has contracted COVID-19.
Hoyer, D-Maryland, said he is experiencing only mild symptoms and expects to work from home and use proxy voting during his mandated isolation period. He also confirmed in a prepared statement that he is fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and has received a booster shot.
Hoyer’s diagnosis comes the same day that cumulative U.S. COVID-19 cases topped 75 million. The virus has killed more than 890,000 people nationwide since the first virus-related fatality in the U.S. was reported on Jan. 9, 2020, according to a Johns Hopkins University tally.
