Police arrest man accused of shooting homeless men in New York City, Washington, DC
Police in Washington, D.C. said the man responsible for shooting five homeless men in New York City and Washington, D.C. is in custody.
Washington, D.C. police announced on Twitter that the man, whose name has not been released had been arrested and was being interviewed, WRC reported.
He was arrested in southeast Washington D.C. early Tuesday, WABC reported.
Police didn’t say how they found him and they have not yet said what charges he faces, WRC reported.
In all five homeless men — three in Washington, D.C. and two in New York City — had been shot earlier this month. Two of the victims died.
One of the men killed in Washington was found in a burning tent on March 9 and originally was thought to have died from the burns, but an autopsy found he had been shot and stabbed multiple times, WNBC reported.
The other dead man was found in New York City Saturday afternoon in his sleeping bag.
Police said ballistic evidence linked the same gun in all five shootings, WABC reported.

Captain Kevin Kentish, the head of the Washington, D.C. homicide department, also noticed the surveillance photos shared by New York Police was the same man they had been looking for in the nation’s capital.
D.C’s police chief Robert Contee III said that Kintish, who is originally from Queens, New York, said he “happened to be scrolling through social media and saw the image of the NYC suspect,” WABC reported. “During that review, he took that image to his team, based upon the similarities, came together with ATF and forensically connected these cases,” Contee added.
Police believe there were five shootings but said there is a possibility that there could be more and are asking other law enforcement groups along the East Coast to see if they have similar cases, WNBC reported.
