Must-see: Large alligator spotted sunning along Texas beach
GALVESTON, Texas – We’re guessing most visitors to a Texas beach were happy to keep their social distance from this unexpected sunbather.
According to KHOU-TV, Beaumont resident Harvey Warren was at McFaddin Beach near Galveston on Monday when he saw a large alligator catching some rays along the shore.
The reptile, which was about 6 or 7 feet long, “seemed to be kind of sunning himself, didn’t seem to be very aggressive,” Warren told KHOU.
He quickly snapped some photos and shared one to the Bolivar Beachcombers Facebook group.
“Just out for a Monday evening swim,” Warren captioned the image, which had received more than 400 “likes” by Wednesday morning.

According to the state’s Parks and Wildlife Department, alligators are spotted at beaches “a couple times a year” but can’t tolerate saltwater for very long, KHOU reported. If you see one, keep your distance and alert the department, officials said.
