CHESTERFIELD, Va. – A Virginia man is accused of inadvertently shooting a 12-year-old boy, causing his death, authorities said.
Rayshawn D. Elmore, 22, of Chesterfield, was detained on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter, WRIC reported. Elmore turned himself in on Wednesday morning, the television station reported.
According to a news release from the Chesterfield County Police Department, the boy was shot at his Chesterfield home at 11 p.m. on Tuesday, WWBT reported.
The victim was taken to an area hospital, where he died from his injuries, the television station reported.
Authorities said that at this point in the investigation, indications point to Elmore inadvertently shooting the victim, who he knew, WRIC reported.
