Pembroke Volunteer Fire Co. said crews arrived to find fireworks exploding while the box truck was in flames, WGRZ reported.

“All of a sudden (the driver) saw sparks coming out of the back of the truck,” Pembroke Assistant Fire Chief Edwin Mileham said. “And then he heard some loud bangs out of the back of the truck. He pulled it over and got out of the vehicle and we got called. By then it was blowing up pretty good.”

The driver was not injured.

Debris from the exploding fireworks was found more than 1,000 feet away. The flames were as high as the power lines.

Crews were eventually able to put out the fire.
