Mick Brigden, a tour manager for artists including Bob Dylan and the Rolling Stones, died Sunday in a freak accident while digging a grave for his dog.
Brigden’s wife, Julia Dreyer Brigden, said he was taken to a hospital in Santa Rosa, where he died, the Press Democrat reported. He was 73.
“He was so organized. That’s why he was so good at his job,” she said. “When you arrived at the hotel, the cars were waiting and the venues were set up.”
Brigden’s mentor was well-known promoter Bill Graham. He took over management of Bill Graham Presents after working seven years under Graham. Over the years, Brigden worked with many artists including Van Morrison, Humble Pie, Peter Frampton and Carlos Santana, People reported. Later, he launched Wolfgang Records, which released albums for Eddie Money.
Brigden started his own management company in the early 2000s. Guitarist Joe Satriani was the first client Bridgen signed.
“It’s been a crazy and wonderful 33 years of rock ‘n’ roll. I’ve never worked so hard, played so hard, laughed and cried so hard, made so much music and had so many worldwide adventures, and all with Mick by my side,” Satriani said in a statement. “He was the ultimate music business mentor. Honest, tough, nurturing, hardworking, respectful, tenacious, insightful, he was all of things and more. I learned so much about how to be a good person from Mick. Throughout his illustrious career he worked the biggest and the best, but always knew it was important to be kind, be respectful, be cool and do things the right way.”
It was not all about the music for Brigden. He also enjoyed winemaking and bicycling, the Press Democrat reported.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Jack, stepdaughter Jessica Merz and grandson David Merz.
Instead of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to the Humane Society of Sonoma County.
