South Florida mayor ‘squashes’ 2020
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Admit it: 2020 is the kind of year that needs to go away.
Keith James, the mayor of West Palm Beach, Florida, spoke for all of us on Saturday when he opened the GreenMarket by “squashing 2020.”
James used a rubber mallet to smash squash on a table, WPTV reported.
He was joined by City Commissioners Christy Fox, Joseph Peduzzi, Christina Lambert, and Kelly Shoaf, as they symbolically showed their frustration over the many issues that have plagued South Florida — and the country — during 2020.
The city of West Palm Beach was selling “Squash T-shirts” at the event, according to WPTV.
Because of the coronavirus pandemic, signs at GreenMarket used puns to remind visitors to be careful, urging them to “Lettuce Shop Safely,” keep six “beets” apart, and “Donut” forget to sanitize.
If you “peas,” we want to forget 2020. This is a step in the right direction.
