Rep. Mary Gay Scanlon, a democrat who represents Pennsylvania’s 5th Congressional District, was walking to her car in a Philadelphia park shortly before 3 p.m. Wednesday when two armed men demanded her car keys, The Associated Press reported. She gave them the keys and one man drove off in the car while the other left in an SUV, the AP reported.

Delaware State Police found Scanlon’s car in Newark, near the Christiana Mall after it had been spotted, WPVI reported. That’s approximately 40 miles away from where the car had been stolen.

The car was empty when police arrived at the scene, but troopers told WPVI they conducted surveillance on the vehicle and spotted five people entering it, who were then arrested.

The five suspects are all from Wilmington, Delaware, and range in age from 13 to 19. The 19-year-old was identified as Josiah Brown. According to state police, he was involved in the armed carjacking. Brown was taken into custody by the FBI and the others were charged with receiving stolen property, the New York Times reported.

In a statement to CNN, Scanlon’s spokesperson said, “The congresswoman was physically unharmed. She thanks the Philadelphia Police Department for their swift response, and appreciates the efforts of both the Sergeant-at-Arms in D.C. and her local police department for coordinating with Philly PD to ensure her continued safety.”

Police did not say whether Scanlon was targeted because she was a politician or public figure, Reuters reported.
