Coronavirus: Taylor Swift donates thousands to 2 mothers struggling financially amid COVID-19
Taylor Swift has paid more than lip service to at least two families struggling to make ends meet since the novel coronavirus pandemic began.
Billboard confirmed that the “cardigan” singer donated $13,000 each to two mothers’ GoFundMe pages after taking to heart an article published Monday by The Washington Post, highlighting the virus-fueled financial struggles facing millions of Americans as the holidays approach.
According to the Carroll Daily Times Herald, Nikki Cornwell, who revealed to the Post that she was $5,000 behind on rent and feared eviction, found the following comment from Swift accompanying her generous donation.
“Nikki, I read about you in the Washington Post and thought it was really brave of you to share your story. I’m so sorry for everything you’ve had to go through this year and wanted to send you this gift, from one Nashville girl to another. Love, Taylor,” Swift wrote on Cornwell’s GoFundMe page.
Meanwhile, Swift made an identical donation to Shelbie Selewski from Michigan, who shared with the Post that she lost her job in the spring and has been caring for her infant daughter, born in December with a collapsed lung, while helping her 7-year-old with remote learning.
“Shelbie, I’m sending you this gift after reading about you in the Washington Post. No one should have to feel the kind of stress that’s been put on you. I hope you and your beautiful family have a great holiday season. Love, Taylor,” Swift wrote on Selewski’s GoFundMe page.
