On Wednesday, the zoo shared a photo of the yet-to-be-named gibbon, which gave a wide-eyed expression as it looked into the camera, The Dallas Morning News reported.

Zoo officials said the gibbon was born on Aug. 11 to parents Tualang and Daxin.

“(The) baby is strong and healthy and doing well,” zoo officials wrote in a Facebook post.

Zoo officials have been caring for the infant, noting that its parents “did not show much initial instinct to care for him,” despite two attempts at re-introductions over the past two weeks.

“We know maternal care is learned, and it is common for mothers to need time to acclimate to their new role, especially for first-time moms like Tualang,” the zoo wrote on Facebook.

The baby gibbon weighed approximately 21 ounces, the Morning News reported. Adult gibbons grow to 15 to 20 pounds.
