‘Ace Ventura’ turns 60: Jim Carrey celebrates milestone birthday

Jim Carrey turned 60 on Monday, and the rubber-faced actor-comedian took to social media to proclaim that he was “old but I’m gold.”

“I’m 60, and I’m sexy,” Carrey said, assuming an elderly man’s voice in a Twitter video. “And tonight I’m having creamed corn and strained peaches.”

Carrey, who was born Jan. 17, 1962, in Newmarket, Canada, has excelled in standup comedy, television and movies during his career.

He received his big break on the television series “In Living Color,” Variety reported. Carrey appeared in all 124 episodes of the show, which aired from 1990 to 1994, playing a host of characters, IMDb.com reported.

Carrey’s movie run during the 1990s established him as a mainstream film star, Variety reported. That included three major films in 1994: “Ace Ventura: Pet Detective,” “Dumb and Dumber” and “The Mask.”

Carrey then played the villainous Riddler in the 1995 film, “Batman Forever,” and followed with a reprise of his madcap detective role in “Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls.” He made history as the first actor to be paid $20 million when he appeared in the 1996 film, “The Cable Guy,” Variety reported.

In 1997 Carrey was nominated for a Golden Globe for “Liar, Liar” in 1997, which led to one of his best jokes: “It’s insane … I mean, Jack Nicholson, Dustin Hoffman, Samuel L. Jackson, Kevin Kline — I don’t see how I can lose.”

Carrey did win a Golden Globe for his role in the 1998 drama, “The Truman Show.” He also played Andy Kaufman in the 1999 film, “Man on the Moon” and starred with Morgan Freeman and Jennifer Aniston in 2003′s “Bruce Almighty.”
