The new plan, Basic with Ads, will cost $6.99 a month and will be available beginning Nov. 3.

The plan will be one of four the company will offer: Basic with Ads, ad-free Basic, Standard and Premium.

According to Netflix, the new plan will offer much of what the Basic plan offers, but will have four to five minutes of commercials every hour. The company said the ads will be 15 to 30 seconds long and will be shown before and during shows.

“While it’s still very early days, we’re pleased with the interest from both consumers and the advertising community — and couldn’t be more excited about what’s ahead,” Netflix said in a statement. “As we learn from and improve the experience, we expect to launch in more countries over time.”

Netflix said Thursday the new plan will have ratings available from Nielsen sometime in 2023. Nielsen ratings show advertisers the size of a television show’s audience.

The announcement comes as Disney+ and Hulu have both announced new plans that include ads. The plans will both be $7.99 per month. Disney+’s ad tier launches in December.

Netflix’s ad-free Basic costs $9.99 a month, Standard service is $15.49 and Premium costs $19.99 a month.
