Officials: 3 men arrested for alleged cockfighting in Texas; 17 roosters, 6 chicks rescued
PORTER, Texas – Three men have been arrested for alleged cockfighting in Porter, Texas. Officials say 17 roosters and six chicks were rescued as a result of the investigation.
According to a news release from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, on Sunday, deputies were called out to a house in Porter, Texas, after reports of cockfighting taking place. When they arrived at the house, deputies allegedly found “obvious signs of cockfight,” roosters in cages and multiple dead roosters. MCSO’s livestock unit was called out to the scene to assist with the investigation.
The livestock unit got a seizure warrant for 17 live roosters, six live chicks and eight deceased roosters, according to MCSO.
The Houston SPCA assisted the livestock unit and were able to relocate the roosters and chicks to their facility for intake and medical care. MCSO said that they will held until there is an outcome of the seizure hearing.
According to KTRK, Aron Rodriguez, Christian Ramirez and Jerardo Lara were arrested. They have been charged with cockfighting.
Cockfighting is illegal in all 50 states. It is also illegal to make, sell or possess any cockfighting material. In Texas, it is also criminal to go to cockfights, according to KTRK.
