OAKMONT, Pa. – Three people have been charged in the death of a 3-year-old Pennsylvania girl, including her father.

According to WPXI-TV, police responded to the 500 block of 10th Street in Oakmont about 2 p.m. June 9 after receiving a call about an unresponsive child.

Police said the child was badly bruised and malnourished.

First responders performed lifesaving measures and took the child to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

According to a release from Allegheny County police, detectives determined that the child endured prolonged physical and mental abuse.

Police said the child’s father, Jose Eduardo Salazar-Ortiz Sr., 29; the child’s stepmother, Laura Michelle Ramirez, 27; and Ramirez’s sister, Alexis Herrera, 20, are responsible for the child’s death.

All three are charged with criminal homicide, criminal conspiracy, aggravated assault of a child, aggravated indecent assault of a child and endangering the welfare of a child.

Herrera and Ramirez have additional charges of unlawful restrain and false imprisonment.

Ortiz and Ramirez were taken into custody by Allegheny County police homicide detectives and Cranberry Township police in Cranberry Township.

They are awaiting arraignment at the Allegheny County Jail.

An arrest warrant has been issued for Herrera. Police said she is described as a Hispanic female, is 5 feet, 6 inches tall and weighs 220 pounds.
