Christopher Allen Gore, 48, of Albertville, was taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Marshall County Sheriff’s Office Assistant Chief Deputy Steve Guthrie told The Gadsden Times.

Gore was arrested after deputies observed him driving erratically at about 12:15 a.m., the newspaper reported. The deputy attempted to make a traffic stop but Gore fled. He was eventually caught in Albertville and arrested, the sheriff’s office said.

According to Guthrie, Gore was placed in the back seat of a patrol car but managed to break free, WHNT-TV reported. Gore then leaped from the vehicle, the television station reported.

“He somehow wedged the door open,” Guthrie told the Times.

The case was turned over to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, WAAY-TV reported.
